Tennessee Valley Authority talks cold weather tips

While summer seems ready to cling on this weekend, next week looks to show a real dip in temperatures, showing that winter is on the way, and the Tennessee Valley Authority is urging people to get ready now while the weather is still nice.

Speaking with WHOP Friday morning, TVA Energy Right Program Manager Melissa Martin says there are ways to keep your homes warm without running up your energy bill, including getting your HVAC systems tuned up and taking advantage of the ultimate heat source—the sun.

She says it’s a myth that closing vents to certain rooms will use less energy, since your heating systems runs the same amount anyway.

Martin says now is the time to get your HVAC system tuned up, as it’ll get your system primed and ready to meet the demands of the cold weather.

She says it’s important to conserve energy as much as you can, not only to help lessen the blow to your pockets, but to also help the TVA meet the demand from the grid as a whole.

Businesses can qualify for facility upgrades such as LED lighting, electric forklifts, refrigeration system upgrades and thermal ice storage system upgrades. For more information on how to save on energy costs or possibly update your home unit, go online to energyright.com.
