Up to now, nothing for the Christian County High School football team has really mattered. It gets real tonight when the Colonels travel to Owensboro to take on Daviess County in their first Class 6-A, District 1 game of the year.
Christian County enters the game 0-6 overall and Daviess is 1-5. Both teams need a win, but this week a victory would put them in first place in the district standings.
Colonels’ coach Ethan Atchley said don’t be fooled by the Panthers’ record. Their schedule has been difficult.
Christian County is coming off a good offensive performance last week in their 49-14 loss to Bowling Green. The Panthers are coming off a bye week after beating Warren Central 22-6 two weeks ago.
Atlin Maysey is the Panthers’ top rusher with 459 yards and four touchdowns. The top receiver is Jace Hunt, with 18 catches for 311 yards and four scores. Quarterback Remington Davis has thrown for 471 yards and five touchdowns.
Jaiden Williams is coming off a 275-yard passing performance last week. He has thrown for 813 yards and seven scores this season. His top receiving threats are Aiden Jesse (28 catches for 458 yards) and Josh Bridges (19 receptions for 356 yards).
Christian County enters the game averaging just over 14 points per game, but it is giving up 44 points per contest. Daviess averages nearly 12 points per game and has given up almost 37 points per contest.
The Panthers defeated the Colonels 24-16 last year.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and airtime for tonight’s game is at 6:30 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm.
