South Christian Elementary School has been awarded a $500,000 grant from the Department of Defense Education Activity.
According to a news release from Christian County Public Schools, the grant money is to be allocated over the next five years and will be used to purchase Science, Technology, Engineering and Math resources, equipment and supplies. The hope is to engage students in STEM concepts while providing learning experiences that helps them further discover the world around them, while increasing their aptitude in math and science.
South Christian, located in Herndon in proximity to Fort Campbell, has one of the highest populations of military-connected students in the district.
Tiffany Gray, principal at South Christian Elementary explained that some of the equipment the school would look at purchasing could include drones, robotics materials, 3D printing materials, and coding programs.
