A Hopkinsville man is celebrating Wednesday morning, after he was officially handed the keys to a new home, following a lengthy process to replace his old home that had fallen into disrepair.
Larry Shelton’s new home is shiny and new, with all the fixings, and he was delighted to get his key to the new home on Linn Street. Holly Boggess with Community Development Services says the process was not an easy one and was a longtime in the making, and it was made possible through a partnership with numerous programs.
Shelton says he was blessed to a part of this program, and while there were speed bumps along the way, he never got discouraged.
The project involved the demolition of the old structure and the construction of the new home on the same footprint, and Shelton says he hopes the Hopkinsville Home Improvement Program is able to continue helping those who need it.
For the construction, the City worked with local contractors Outlaw Contracting Company, Inc and Done Right Remodeling. The program aimed to assist qualified applicants with significant home improvements, ensuring safe and sustainable housing for residents.
