Hopkinsville High School golfer Wade Foster’s bid to make the Leachman Buick—GMC-Cadillac Kentucky High School Athletic Association State Golf Tournament Championship Round next week in Bowling Green fell just short Wednesday afternoon.
Foster, a senior at Hopkinsville, carded a 12-over-par 83 at the KHSAA Section 1 Tournament at his home course at the Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club.
Things looked good for Foster through six holes, as he was 1-under par. However, struggles on hole 7 and 8 carried over to the back nine and took him out of contention.
While Foster didn’t advance, former Christian County High School golfer and current McCracken County No. 1 player Landon Hunt tied for first place and led the Mustangs to a third-place team finish.
Hunt tied with Greenwood’s Layton Richey with even-par 71 on the day.
Taylor County’s Bryce Vernon was one shot back for third place.
Taylor County won the team event with a 312. Owensboro was second with a 314 and McCracken shot a 318. All three teams automatically advance to next week’s Championship Round at the Bowling Green Country Club.
