To say the District 8 volleyball tournament is going to be interesting may be an understatement.
University Heights Academy, which will be the third seed in the district tournament later this month, knocked off Heritage Christian Academy 3-2 Monday night in Blazer Gym. HCA had beaten the Lady Blazers earlier in the season and earned the No. 2 seed in the tournament.
Christian County will be the top seed in the tournament and the Lady Blazers pushed the Lady Colonels to five sets last week before succumbing.
On Monday, UHA honored its only senior Olivia Oakley, who got the match started with a powerful kill to set the tone. Oakley finished the night with 16 kills and 18 digs as the Lady Blazers prevailed 25-20, 16-25, 25-22, 9-25, 15-9.
Gretchen Durham had 35 assists and Katherine Wood had 16 digs for UHA. Megan Long and Taylor Cantrell each added three kills.
Heritage, which played without starter Katie Cansler, who was ill, was led by Mya Goodwin’s 22 kills, 24 digs, and five aces. Bralee Fowler had three blocks, three kills, and five digs and Hadlee Hayes added 17 digs, 12 kills, one assist and one ace.
Makenzie McCarty had 37 assists and 13 digs and Grace Conley provided seven kills.
UHA (7-16) is back in action tonight at Crittenden County and Heritage Christian (13-5) will play host to Caldwell County tonight.
