Fall break is rapidly approaching for Christian County Public School System students, with the first month of schools officially a wrap.
Fall break starts Monday, and while speaking with WHOP Monday morning, Superintendent Chris Bentzel reminded parents and students that Friday is an early release day—a good way to start a well-deserved break for students and staff. He says that even with the unfortunate circumstances involving threats that are affecting school systems across the country, students seem to have settled in well to school and gotten the year off to a strong start.
He says there were a lot of changes to navigate this year, but everyone seems to have taken them in stride, with the biggest change still under construction. The new Christian County High School project has been lucky where it comes to weather for the most part, and Bentzel says they’re hopeful all the exterior work will be done by the end of the year.
That’s also when they plan to go out for bids on for construction of the future athletic facilities there—Bentzel says the project remains on track and on budget.
Outside of facility changes, Bentzel says they remain focused on student education and achievement, with a renewed focus on understanding what a student does on a daily basis. So, administrators and other staff will start being a “student for a day”, where they will walk the average day of a student in CCPS, to better understand and have empathy for their students, while hearing from them directly.
