Three local golfers advanced to the first round of the Girls’ State Golf Tournament due to their performances Wednesday at the Girls’ Region 2 Golf Tournament at the Pearl Club in Owensboro.
University Heights Academy senior Conlee Lindsey took third place overall with a 78, one shot from tying for the top spot. Campbell Lindsey had a 93 and Hopkinsville senior Cate Blane recorded an 80 to be among the top 10 players advancing to play next week on their home course.
Daviess County won the team event with a 319 followed by Henderson County at 359. Both of those teams automatically advance to next week’s state tournament round at the Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club. UHA was third with a 374.
The top 10 players not on one of the two qualifying teams automatically advance.
Breckinridge County’s Adelynn Moorman won the tournament with a 77. Daviess County’s Claire Reynolds tied Conlee Lindsey for second with a 78. Blane’s score was good for a sixth-place individual finish.
Other Lady Blazers playing included Allie Sandifer with a 101 and Caroline Tucker with a 102.
Christian County had a team score of 498 and included Allie Ezell (115), Alyse Ezell (117), Anslee West (130) and Carter Jane Wilson (136).
The boys’ sectional tournament will be played Monday at the Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club and will include Hopkinsville High School senior Wade Foster. The girls’ tournament is scheduled for Tuesday.
