Hunt, Blazers blank Russellville in soccer

University Heights Academy tuned up for the All “A” Classic State Soccer Tournament by whipping host Russellville 5-0 Thursday night in a boys’ soccer match.

Hayden Hunt had two goals and an assist to pace the Blazers, who led 4-0 at halftime.

Griffin McCoy opened the scoring less than three minutes into the contest on an assist from Cal Givens. The first of Hunt’s goals came with 29:05 left in the half on a header off a corner from Givens for a 2-0 lead.

UHA pushed its lead to 3-0 as Hunt scored again on an assist from Clayton Lester with 12:51 left in the half.

Lester scored on an assist from Hunt with 7:05 to go in the first half to make it 4-0.

The Blazers’ final goal came with 16 minutes remaining on a Lincoln Hauret header off a cross from Givens.

Hayden Fitzsimmons had one save to pick up the shutout win in goal for UHA, which improved to 9-4. It was the third straight win for the Blazers, who take on Prestonsburg at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the All A Classic State Soccer Tournament quarterfinals at Louisville Assumption.
