A Hopkinsville woman is facing an assault charge after she allegedly struck a man with a large wrench Monday night.
According to the police report, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of North Drive for reports of a disturbance and upon arrival, made contact with the victim and 26-year-old Maria Gabriela of Hopkinsville. Investigation determined the two had gotten into a verbal altercation that escalated with Gabriela grabbed a large wrench and threatening the victim with it.
She allegedly put several holes in the walls of the home and broke a television by hitting it with the wrench. At one point, she allegedly swung near the victim and he blocked it with his hand, causing injuries.
It was believed his hand was likely broken, as he was unable to fully open it and it had excessive swelling.
Gabriela was arrested and charged with second-degree assault-domestic violence.
