Officers from the Hopkinsville Police Department arrested 23-year-old Zachary Gillingham of Hopkinsville after he reportedly assaulted multiple people and fled from law enforcement on Sunday.
According to a report, officers were dispatched to apartments on Boales Street for an active domestic dispute. Gillingham’s neighbor told officers that she heard him arguing with someone which is a frequent occurrence, but this time the neighbor reportedly heard someone yelling for help.
The neighbor attempted to break up the fight, but Gillingham allegedly grabbed her, threw her onto the floor and punched her. The neighbor’s sister also went to Gillingham’s residence to help and was reportedly hit by him as well.
After both victim’s had been hit by Gillingham, their brother reportedly heard them screaming and attempted to break up the fight and at the scene Gillingham choked him before fleeing from the residence toward Means Avenue.
Officers made contact with the victim who was reportedly yelling help which alerted the neighbors. She told officers that her and Gillingham had been drinking alcohol and got into an argument and he allegedly pushed her to the floor and started hitting her several times.
Officers later saw Gillingham as he was running into the woods. A K-9 unit located Gillingham and led officers to his location. Once detained, Gillingham was not complying with officer’s orders and said he did not hit that woman.
Gillingham was charged with two counts of fourth-degree assault, two counts of first-degree strangulation, first-degree fleeing or evading police, second-degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest.
