Seven new homes dedicated in Dawson Springs to help tornado survivors

The rebuilding efforts continue in Dawson Springs, now three years out from the deadly December 10, 2021 tornado that devastated communities in western Kentucky.

That effort in Hopkins County got another boon Wednesday as Governor Andy Beshear made a visit to his western Kentucky roots and celebrated seven new homes going up in Dawson Springs. The governor also announced $6.3 million in funding to expand internet access, improve roads, support industrial development and market tourism destinations in the region.

The houses were made possible thanks to Kentucky Habitat for Humanity and the Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund—to date, 2016 home-building projects are either completed, under construction or have been approved to start construction across western Kentucky.

Hopkins County Judge-Executive Jack Whitfield says, “We continue to make progress in rebuilding from the 2021 tornadoes. We celebrated seven new homes for survivors who have been through incredibly difficult times. We also celebrated funds to make life better for the people who call Hopkins County home. We will keep giving the people of Hopkins County our very best and rebuilding our community together.”
