Casey Jones Distillery has launched their Mash Maker’s Experience, allowing customers to have a hand in crafting their own perfect ‘mash’ to one day become its own spirits.
The program that will become a staple of the Casey Jones experience launched Saturday morning, with participants on hand to choose between the different grains they thought would make a good drink flavor, and then send them through a mill. That milled grain will one day be distilled—along with the correct amount of corn—to made into its own brew.
Partner and distiller Cody Turner says distilleries are about more than just supply excellence supplies and a venue—they’re becoming more customer focused, and this is one of the many ways Casey Jones is bringing both fun and education to the consumer.
He says while it seems like there would be much difference in the eventual taste of the beverage due the slight differing in grain amounts, you’d be surprised, as the amount of which types of grain are in the mash make a huge difference.
He says they’ll collect grain from consumers over the next month, and then they’ll distill it down and get it into barrels, where it will then become an actual beverage that people can taste.
Those who participate in the mash making experience will be able to follow along in the process of their barrel. Then, the grain gathering will start once again the next month.
The Mash Maker Experience is available at $10 per person, Monday through Sunday, and each tour will run approximately 45 minutes with a limit of about 20 individuals per group. For more information, visit Casey Jones Distillery on Facebook.
Local radio stations WHOP of Forcht Broadcasting and WKDZ of Ham Broadcasting teamed up Saturday morning to craft a mash that reflect broadcast radio; locally sourced, but with a bit of spice thrown in for fun.
