Tigers preparing to end losing skid on gridiron

The Hopkinsville Tigers football team will be looking to break a four-game losing streak dating back to last season on Friday night when it plays host to Mayfield.

The Tigers, whose last football win came against Calloway County on Sept. 29 of last year, play host to the defending Class 2-A champions at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Stadium of Champions. The start of the game was postponed by 30 minutes due to heat.

Hopkinsville is 0-1 after a loss to Greenwood last week. Mayfield also is 0-1 after a rare season-opening loss last week to Graves County, 35-28.

The Cardinals defeated the Tigers 59-6 last year in Mayfield. This will be the 71st meeting between the two schools with Mayfield leading the series 35-33-2.

Airtime for Friday’s game is at 7 p.m. on Newsradio 99.3 FM and 1230 AM WHOP.
