The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Murray that resulted in both an officer and the suspect being sustaining gunshot wounds.
According to a news release, the shooting happened around 5:45 a.m. on Friday at a residence on Johnson Boulevard in Murray when officers with the Murray Police Department attempted to serve an arrest warrant on an individual who then barricaded himself in the residence while brandishing a firearm.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department responded to assist with the situation, which is when the suspect fired the gun, striking an officer with the Marshall County Special Response Team multiple times. Officers returned fire, striking the suspect, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
The officer was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, where he has since been treated and released. The suspect was flown to an out-of-state hospital for life-threatening injuries, and his status is unknown.
The investigation remains ongoing, and as per policy, the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.
