The Christian County Cattlemen’s Lonestar Rodeo was packed full of celebration for more than just the cowboys and cowgirls.
This past weekend at the Christian County Cattlemen’s Lonestar Rodeo, students received scholarships from the local Cattlemen’s in the amount of $2,000 each, with a total amount awarded of $18,000.
This scholarship program has impacted numerous individuals over the years, with just this year’s nine recipients being Walker Ashby, Riley Bailey, Carly Chadoin, Carson Gilliam, Brooke Jenkins, Luke Jenkins, Lucas Ketzel, Allison Luttrull, and Mason Spain. These individuals meet the criteria of excellence that the Christian County Cattlemen’s Association is trying to invest in.
The Fred T. Garnett Memorial Scholarship was also awarded at the rodeo to Riley Bailey—this scholarship is to not only honor Garnett and the cowboy he was, but to encourage others that keep the horseman legacy alive.
The Cattlemen’s is investing in their community with more than just scholarships, but by recognizing the ones that have dedicated their life to the cattle industry. This award, known as the Cattleman Of the Year, has played an important role in honoring where the industry has come from and the hard work it has taken to get her today.
In a recent social media post made by Long’s son Brice Long, he says, “Thanks to the Christian County Cattlemen’s Association for naming my dad, Jarrell Long, the Cattleman of The Year. It’s a great honor for a lifelong farmer, cowboy and supporter of the cattle industry. […] He is very gracious for this recognition from the industry he poured his heart and soul into his entire life.”
