Salvation Army to keep cooling station, emergency shelter open through the week

The Salvation Army of Hopkinsville is set to keep their cooling station open through Saturday, along with the extended hours of the Emergency Shelter.

According to a news release, the cooling center located at 313 East Seventh Street in Hopkinsville will be open from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. until Saturday, August 10. The Emergency Shelter will also be open 24 hours a day through Saturday, allowing program participants to stay inside during the daytime hours, with heat index values expected to touch 100 degrees at times.

The most urgent need at this time is for cash donations to support the extended hours for both the shelter and the cooling center.

Lieutenant David Donegan says, “We are deeply thankful for the outpouring of support from our community. Without your generosity, it would be impossible to provide these crucial resources to our most vulnerable neighbors.”

Anyone wanting to donate to the cause can contact the Salvation Army for more information, and they will also accept donations of bottled water.
