Like many area high school soccer teams, the Christian County Colonels have some questions regarding the upcoming 2024 season. Senior leadership and experience will not be an issue.
Second-year head coach Avery Seeger said he has 15 seniors back from last year’s team, which finished the season 8-11 and advanced to the Region 2 tournament semifinals.
“This is not a one-player team, it’s a team,” Seeger said. “It’s all of us. If you look out for one, you have to look out for all.”
Offensively, the Colonels will be powered at midfield by seniors Leland Creamer, Alex Hale, Erwin Macario, and Wyatt Fleming. The wing and forward positions will be held down by seniors Riley Cook, Valentin Gonzzales, Christian Lopez, Marlee Reeves, and Jaden Woolf.
Junior Noah Davis and sophomores Cooper Fort and Jensen Nolte also will be vying for playing time in 2024.
Defensively, seniors Caden Brown, Cook, Zach Dawes, Zamien Matlock, Matthew Reeves, Tyler Stokes and R.J. Nolte will be ahead of junior goalkeeper Mason Malone.
Sophomores Micah Samford and Yanixan Ceja also will be seeing time on defense for the Colonels.
“We’re feeling pretty good about this season,” Seeger said. “We have a good problem of 15 seniors and a strong group of juniors. We have the luxury of having a rotation in and out without much drop off when it comes to talent on the field.”
Christian County fell to University Heights Academy in the District 8 championship last year before knocking off Trigg County in the Region 2 tournament opening round. Seeger said his team is hoping to build off last season’s finish this season.
“It’s been a multi-year project for us,” Seeger said. “Since I’ve been here it’s been a steady improvement. Every year has been building up to this year and we want to keep taking a step forward.”
Christian County opens the season Aug. 13 at Franklin-Simpson.
