School Board receives summer feeding update, approves audio equipment purchase

The Christian County School Board received a Summer Feeding Program update and approved the purchase of audio enhancement and intercom systems for the consolidated Christian County High School at Thursday’s meeting.

To make sure kids have access to healthy meals during the summer, members of the school system hosted the annual Summer Feeding Program. The program started in June and concluded at the end of July.  

Over the course of around two months, Food Services Director, Penny Holt announced that they served 20,484 breakfasts and 20,961 lunches to children across the county. Holt says last year the school district was classified as urban by the government which restricted where the school could set up feeding sites.

This year the school district was classified as rural which allowed them to serve bundled meals and set up feeding locations in outlying parts of the county. Holt says last year they served around 5,000 breakfasts and 6,000 lunches so this year’s program was much more productive.

Next year, Holt says they plan to add extra feeding sites to the program.

Turning toward the consolidated Christian County High School, the board approved the purchase of audio enhancement and notification systems. District Technology Director, Jason Wilson says purchase proposal includes an intercom and bell system, equipment that will amplify classroom audio and distress alert switches for teachers.

The system and its installation costs around $697,000.
