A new trial date has been set for the three men involved in the Princess Theater shooting case, following a hearing in Christian Circuit Court Monday morning.
Deovion Day—who is charged with murder in the shooting death of Aniyah Collins and charged with injuring Gteria Acree—is represented by defense attorney Daniel Whitley, while his co-defendants, Zamarius Humphries and Jaquavian Spencer, have received new attorneys. Humphries and Spencer are charged with first-degree assault after they both allegedly fired guns at one another and Humphries was shot in the neck.
The purpose of the hearing Monday was to once again set a trial date, after the last attempt at a trial date was waylaid by the acquisition of new attorneys, after defense attorney Sands Chewing had to withdraw from representing both Humphries and Spencer when it was ruled they would be tried in court separately.
Judge Andrew Self set a date for December 9, with a trial likely taking that whole week.
Whitley asked that a separate hearing for motions to be heard be set—that was set for September 26.
The incident occurred outside of the Princess Theater in 2021, when Humphries and Spencer allegedly began shooting at each other, which in turn led to Day allegedly pulling a gun and firing the shots that struck Acree and Collins.
