The Christian County School Board received updates on current campus transitions and approved change orders for the consolidated Christian County High School at their Thursday meeting.
By the start of the school year, the Indian Hills Elementary School campus will be the Martin Luther King Jr. Early Learning Center; Indian Hills Elementary School will relocate to the Hopkinsville Middle School Campus and Hopkinsville Middle School will relocate to the MLK Elementary School campus.
Assistant Superintendent, Kevin Crider says the transitions are on schedule and within budget. The Early Learning Center opened on June 24 and Crider says the campus has new branding and signage, new flooring, new window wraps, updated playground equipment and adjusted restrooms.
Early Learning Center Principal Leigh Ann Stewart, says the school is at a more convenient location for parents in comparison to the old elementary school and the renovations make the building feel new.
Stewart shared that the Early Learning Center will serve preschool students who would have previously attended MLK, Indian Hills, Freedom and Millbrooke Preschools.
Hopkinsville Middle School has new branding and signage, flooring, locker room spaces, a renovated gymnasium, a reconstructed media center and library and much more. Crider says the middle school’s transition required the least work because the campus was already in good shape.
Crider says new lockers are set to be installed and the construction of band and choir rooms is underway.
At the new Indian Hills Elementary School campus, Crider says new branding and signage has been installed, parts of the interior have been repainted red, new flooring has been installed and the gymnasium has been renovated. Crider says Indian Hills Elementary needed the larger space and the transition looks good.
After hearing about the campus transitions, Crider shared construction updates for other campuses. Work has started on Bluegrass Learning Academy II; electric bus charging stations will be established; the Virtual Learning Academy moved to the Breathitt Campus and parking lots were restriped.
After the updates, the board approved four change orders for the consolidated Christian County High School. The first two orders resulted in an expense regarding the installation of floor boxes in the gym as well as mud management and soil remediation. The other pair of change orders was a fund transfer that resulted in no cost changes.
