The Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Christian County is dissolving and their services will no longer be available after the director and board members have all resigned.
According to a news release, the decision was not made lightly, but each person felt as though they had no option but to resign as an act of what they call solidarity to protect the needs of Christian County children. CASA has served 24 children who were involved in some form of the Family Court or the Department of Community based services in the last six years.
The release states that recently, the standards presented to the board severely impacted funding, leadership and the needs of children, so the CASA board voted to close the current CASA program in the county.
It goes on to say that the board “could not embrace having people who are not members of our community come in from other counties and decide how the families and children here in Christian County should receive services.”
CASA officials thank the many volunteers, service providers and community members for their years of support as they have worked tirelessly to reunite separated families and advocate for children. All current volunteers should contact the Kentucky CASA Network with any questions.
The current CASA Office, located on Weber Street, will be returned to Christian Fiscal Court, with all non-profit business ceasing and the CASA Board hereby dissolved.
