Joy Closet readies for Back-2-School Bash

As the school year approaches, Joy Closet Executive Director, Heather Gray recently appeared on WHOP and shared that they are preparing for their Back-2-School Bash and spotlighted construction progress on the Hope House.

Joy Closet is a Hopkinsville nonprofit focused on supporting foster care children, families and children in crisis in the Pennyrile region by providing them with need-based donated items such as clothing, toys and sanitary products.

Gray says the nonprofit will be hosting their third annual Back-2-School Bash where students in the foster care system can receive school supplies, clothes, haircuts, hygiene items and much more.

Gray also shared that for $55, folks can sponsor a child for them to receive a new pair of shoes and a gift card to a local store to shop for some back-to-school clothes. The nonprofit is currently accepting sponsorship donations on Paypal or by check which can be mailed to 814 Belmont Street.

The Back-2-School Bach is set for August 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Last year, Gray announced plans for the Hope House which will house children who were removed from their homes instead of placing them at a Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) office. The Hope House will include resources for children and keep them comfortable as members of DCBS search for homes for them.

Ground was broken for the Hope House in June and Gray says the driveway is set to be installed and then the construction of the building will be underway. The Hope House is partly being constructed by volunteers and Gray says she is searching for volunteers who can help with landscaping and outdoor plumbing.
