Community remembers late businessman, military veteran, Lindsay Freeman

Well-known military veteran and Hopkinsville business owner, Lindsay Freeman passed away on Sunday, July 14 at the age of 87.

According to an obituary written by Freeman’s nephew, Andrew Oppmann, Freeman was a Hopkinsville native who graduated from Murray State in 1959. Freeman served in the Army Reserve as a Major General and became the owner of his family’s company based in Hopkinsville, Freeman’s Fur Shop.

Freeman served in the Army Reserve for 36 years. During his service, he held assignments in the 100th Training Division and was responsible for training soldiers with tanks and other armored weapon systems. He was the division’s commanding general from 1991 to 1995. Freeman has also held multiple commander roles.

Freeman was the owner of his family’s fur shop company from 1994, following the death of his father Howard Freeman, until 1997 when the company was sold.
