It’s hiring season for the Hopkinsville Fire Department and they are preparing to host their first-ever recruitment open house. Payton Rogers and Nathan Stewart from the fire department appeared on WHOP to spotlight the upcoming event.
Rogers shared that this year’s hiring process is occurring as work is beginning on what will soon be Fire Station Five on Walton Way, so some of the people hired will be staffed at the incoming station. Stewart encourages anyone interested in being a firefighter to come on out to their open house to see what they are all about.
At the open house attendees can learn more about what training includes, meet the firefighters and get a look at the tools and trucks the firefighters use.
Attendees will also learn about all of the opportunities for firefighters. Rogers says there are multiple special teams fire fighters can be a part of such as the department’s hazmat team, swift water rescue team and rope rescue team and there are also opportunities to move up in the ranks.
Rogers also shared that jumping into the department’s hiring process can be intimidating, so the open house is a chance for people to learn more from firefighters who have gone through the hiring and training process.
The department’s recruitment open house is set for Saturday, July 20 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Fire Station One at 112 Phillip Meacham Way.
