Visit Hopkinsville director shares upcoming tours, activities

As tourism continues to grow across the state, Amy Rogers the executive director of Visit Hopkinsville, appeared at Tuesday’s Hopkinsville Rotary Club meeting to share some tours and activities that are coming to the community.

In collaboration with other convention and visitor’s bureaus across the state, Rogers says Hopkinsville is set to be a destination on multiple state tours and trails. Rogers first spotlighted the Kentucky Capitals Quest where travelers can grab a quest passport from a visitor’s bureau that will lead them through towns and spotlight what they are known for.

Hopkinsville is noted as the Batter Capital, Bowling Green is the Corvette Capital and Paducah is the Quilt Making Capital. The quest features 11 locations and when a travelers make it to a town on the quest, they can go to the visitors bureau to get their passport stamped. More information about the capital quest can be found at kentuckycapitalquest.com.

Rogers says Hopkinsville and Christian County will also be destinations on the Western Kentucky Wine Trail and the West Kentucky BBQ Belt. For the wine trail, Naimoli Estate will be a location and for the BBQ belt the Bar-B-Que Shack, The Wood Shed Bar-B-Que & Restaurant and Big Mike’s Barbecue will be locations spotlighted.

Rogers says the trails serve to attract visitors while also supporting local businesses. More information about the wine trail can be found at wkywinetrail.com and more about the BBQ belt can be found at wkybbq.com.

Hopkinsville is also a location included in the Kentucky After Dark campaign which highlights locations that are said to be home to paranormal activity and bizarre occurrences. Rogers says Hopkinsville is a location on the campaign for the Kelly Green Men encounter. In 1955, residents from the Kelly community, north of Hopkinsville, reportedly came across green extraterrestrial beings.

Rogers also told Rotarians to be on the lookout, because they are partnering with the Christian County Literacy Council to host an adult spelling bee in September. More details about the spelling bee will be announced closer to the competition’s date.
