Todd County is officially Storm Ready, and the National Weather Service in Paducah made a visit to Todd County Fiscal Court recently to make the presentation.
Warning Coordination Meteorologist Christine Wielgos says a community has to accomplish quite a lot to be designated as Storm Ready, including having more than one way to receive severe weather warnings and alerts, creating a system that monitors weather conditions locally, developing formal hazardous weather plans and more. She says Todd County accomplished all of that and more and she’s proud of the steps that have been taken to protect lives.
She says this region has had more than its fair share of severe weather events, and this is just another way that people can be more readily informed and prepared.
Wielgos says it’s all part of the initiative to make the nation as a whole Storm Ready, one community at a time.
A plan to eventually get storm sirens installed at all schools and fire departments in Todd County is underway—Todd County Emergency Management also makes a habit of often handing out weather radios to Todd County residents.
