To celebrate Independence Day, the City of Elkton is hosting its annual July 3rd on the Square in downtown Elkton which will feature vendors, live music and a firework show finale.
Johnny Knuckles from B.R. Knuckles Insurance who sponsors the firework show and Lydia Simonds a former “American Idol” contestant appeared on WHOP on Monday to talk about the upcoming celebration in Elkton.
Knuckles shared that the July 3rd celebration is around a 20-year-old tradition and it will kick off with the Todd County Chamber of Commerce’s Kids Bike Parade at 5:30 p.m. at the Elkton Baptist Church parking lot. Then in the downtown square, food trucks, shopping vendors and a kid’s area will be open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Simonds, a Nashville based country artist, will take to the stage at 6:30 p.m. to perform some of her songs. She is originally from McDonough, Georgia and competed on “American Idol” in 2019. Simonds shared that she is honored to be a part of Elkton’s Independence Day celebration this year.
At around 9 p.m. once the sun has set, the firework display will begin. Knuckles says each year they add grander fireworks to the show and this year’s display will be bigger than ever.
