Detectives arrest Hopkinsville man for drug trafficking

Detectives from the Christian County Sheriff’s Office arrested 40-year-old James Mitchell of Hopkinsville on Friday after he was reportedly found to be in possession of drugs.

According to a report, detectives witnessed Mitchell driving recklessly on Butler Road and crossing over the center line multiple times. A traffic stop was performed on Mitchell’s vehicle and a K-9 unit reportedly alerted to the driver’s side of the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle reportedly unveiled marijuana, synthetic marijuana and methamphetamine. A search of Mitchell’s residence also allegedly unveiled a handgun.

Mitchell was charged with careless driving, failure to maintain required insurance, possession of marijuana, possession of synthetic drugs, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
