The Fort Campbell Historical Foundation is preparing to host a groundbreaking ceremony to kick-off construction on the Tennessee Wings of Liberty Museum.
According to a news release, the museum will focus on the historical impact of Fort Campbell soldiers and provide an opportunity for community members to experience and learn about the nation’s history from the perspective of U.S. soldiers.
Retired Major General and President of the foundation, Brian Winski says the soldiers at Fort Campbell have been a critical force in the nation’s most significant conflicts which makes for quite a lot of history to tell. Winski says the museum will embody the ideals of duty, service and patriotism that America was founded on.
The museum will also be outside of Fort Campbell’s gates and accessible to the public near the intersection of Fort Campbell Boulevard and Tiny Town Road. Winski says this museum will be where the community and Fort Campbell meet and will connect the soldiers with the citizens they serve.
Construction of the $40 million museum project will occur in phases. Phase One of the museum is set to be open to the public in late 2025 and will feature a 41,000-square-foot exhibit hall with traditional artifacts such as weapons and uniforms, a detailed chronology wall of battles and interactive exhibits.
Phase Two A will include an atrium and gift shop and Phase Two B will include an Education Outreach Center with a large multipurpose event space, classrooms and additional offices. Phase Three will include a memorial park with outdoor exhibits.
Once all constriction phases are complete the museum and outdoor space will span over 60,000 square feet.
The groundbreaking is set for Thursday, June 27 at 10 a.m. at 14th Street and Florida Avenue on Fort Campbell. More information about the museum can be found at fortcampbell.com.
