The Western Kentucky State Fair officially gets underway Friday night, with the return of fan-favorite rides and live music in the convention center, before the Demolition Derby takes over the grandstands Saturday evening.
WKSF Board Chair Brad Hewell says people will see some cosmetic improvements this year, along with a new livestock pavilion, along with some improvements that aren’t as easy to see.
Friday is $25 armband night—Saturday will have $30 armbands for unlimited rides, and brings in the crowds for numerous beauty pageants, starting with infant, baby and tiny tot pageants in the morning, followed by the Mrs. Western Kentucky State Fair pageant at 5:30 p.m. and then the Miss pageant at 7:30 p.m. in the air-conditioned convention center.
The Demolition Derby will begin at 7 p.m. in the grand stands, and Hewell says it will operate a little differently this year.
It’s $10 for grandstand admission and it’s still only $3 for most folks to get into the fairgrounds. There will also be pedal pull competitions in front of the convention center starting at 6 p.m. The Petting Zoo opens at 5 p.m. with gates opening to the public for the fair at 4 p.m., outside of any competitions or pageants.
