Police arrest Hopkinsville man for fleeing, endangerment

Kenneth Thornton, age 46 of Hopkinsville was arrested for fleeing or evading police and wanton endangerment on Sunday after he reportedly fled from law enforcement as they attempted to perform a traffic stop on him.

According to a report from Hopkinsville Police, officers attempted a traffic stop on Thornton’s vehicle because he has three active warrants. When officers switched on their lights and sirens Thornton reportedly began to flee near First and South Virginia Streets.

The pursuit reportedly went through residential streets and a congested area where people had just gotten out of church. Officers were able to box Thornton’s vehicle in near North Elm Street and Glass Avenue and found that he was allegedly in possession of an open container of alcohol.

Thornton was charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police, operating a vehicle with a suspended license, possession of an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, failure to signal, improper turning and first-degree wanton endangerment for reportedly almost hitting someone during the pursuit.
