Grand jury returns indictments for robbery, assault

A Christian County Grand Jury has returned multiple indictments, including for first-degree assault, robbery, kidnapping and other charges.

Indicted for first-degree assault is 40-year-old Matthew Mitchell of Hopkinsville, who is accused of throwing his brother, Michael Mitchell, from the front porch of a residence on Dusty Lane in May of this year during a physical altercation. Michael Mitchell sustained injuries to his back that required medical attention.

Forty-nine-year-old Maurice Watkins of Owensboro was indicted on a charge of first-degree robbery, while 37-year-old Sylvia Casto of Owensboro was indicted for complicity to first-degree robbery, in connection with the armed robbery of the Dollar General on West Seventh Street in April.

Indicted for kidnapping, three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, two counts of third-degree assault of a police officer, second-degree wanton endangerment, fourth-degree assault, resisting arrest, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and retaliating against a participant in the legal process is 33-year-old Mathhew Naylor of Hopkinsville.

He is accused of threatening to harm himself, and getting a hold of a handgun belonging to his brother.  He fired a single shot that went through the ceiling and into another residence occupied by four people.

A physical altercation began between Naylor and his family members as they attempted to take the gun from him.  When officers arrived, Naylor allegedly refused to put his infant son down before attempting to jump out of a window.  He was stopped and taken into custody, where he allegedly resisted arrest, kicking officers and biting another.
