Pennyrile Band Director highlights upcoming events, membership

Lori Boehman, the director of the Pennyrile Area Community Band spotlighted their upcoming concerts and ensembles and how musicians of all ages and playing ability can join at Tuesday’s Hopkinsville Rotary Club meeting.

Boehman is a music teacher at South Christian Elementary School and a founding member of the community band in 2018.

Boehman says the band started as an outlet for music lovers to continue playing and performing following high school or college because music is a lifelong thing. The band is composed of members of all ages from counties across the Pennyrile region and Clarksville.

The community band hosts concerts and plays at regional events. In April the band hosted its annual Spring Concert which was dedicated to former band director Scott Estes who passed away in 2023.

On Saturday, Boehman says two small ensembles from the band will be performing at Hopkinsville’s Juneteenth Celebration at the Walnut Street Center and on Fourth of July, the band will be hosting a concert at Casey Jones Distillery at 7 p.m.

Boehman says the band is growing exponentially but they are always looking for more members and if those interested have not played their instrument in a while and are a bit rusty then school music teachers in the band can help them regain their skills.
