The Christian County Animal Shelter concluded its annual Dog Days of Summer on Saturday as a part of this weekend’s 400 Mile Yard Sale.
Each year the shelter hosts its Dog Days of Summer event where local vendors are invited to sell their crafts, merchandise and food. Along with local vendors, discounted nail clippings and micro-chipping services are offered at the three-day event.
The event also typically includes discounted pet adoptions, but as a result of a dog at the shelter recently contracting distemper all pet intakes and adoptions have been temporarily halted. Despite being unable to offer pet adoptions at the event, Shelter Director Melissa Goff says they still had a good turnout of people shopping at the vendors.
Since they weren’t able to offer discounted adoptions this weekend, Goff says she wants to host an event in the fall where people can adopt animals for discounted prices.
The funds generated from the event go toward the shelter’s Get Em’ Done program which gets stray dogs and cats spayed and neutered to avoid any accidental litters.
