Two Hopkinsville residents have been charged with criminal abuse after a toddler was found wondering in the roadway on Denzil Drive.
According to the Hopkinsville police report, officers responded to the 100 block of Denzil Drive to find the toddler, along with a passerby, who stayed with the two-year-old until officers arrived. Officers canvassed the entire apartment complex and were unable to locate the child’s parents.
Officers eventually made contact with the child’s mother, 36-year-old Patricia Daniels, at a residence on Kenwood Drive, approximately half a mile from where the child was located.
Daniels told officers that when her husband left for work, he must have forgotten to lock or shut the door. The Department for Community Based Services conducted a home inspection, and determined the residence was not suitable to live in, based on conditions and lack of food in the home.
Daniels, along with 42-year-old Jotham Vincent, were arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree criminal abuse.
