Governor Andy Beshear has announced that state government and the Kentucky Housing Corporation are partnering together to build just shy of 1,000 affordable renting units in communities that were impacted by the December 2021 tornadoes.
Some of those renting units are coming to Christian County, along with Graves, Hopkins and Warren counties, with a total investment of $223.1 million—which makes this the single largest housing development project in history for the Kentucky Department for Local Government. Making the announcement, Governor Beshear gave a break down of how the funding and the housing will be split between the four counties.
He says many people are still trying to recover from 2021’s tornadoes, and this will be a big help to those communities.
The governor says these new units will allow families to have a safe, affordable place to revitalize theirs lives and raise their families.
The development will comprise apartment complexes that will be income-restricted to moderate- and low-income households. Rents will be limited as well to keep units affordable for moderate- and low-income individuals and families. Most units will be 2-3 bedrooms, with a mix of 4 bedroom and single bedroom units.
