To ensure unused medications aren’t misused, the Louisville Field Division of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) along with other drug agencies across the country participated in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on April 27.
The Louisville Division covers Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia and across the three states the agency collected over 45,000 pounds of unused prescription drugs. In Kentucky 12,547 pounds of prescription drugs were collected, In Tennessee 27,746 pounds were collected and in West Virginia 4,779 pounds were collected.
Across the country over 670,000 pounds of unused prescription drugs were collected. Since the program’s inception in 2010, National Prescription Take Back Day has removed more than 18.6 million pounds of unneeded medications across the country.
In a news release, Erek Davodowich from the Louisville Division thanked those who participated and made this year’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day a success.
