Pennyrile Electric linemen are hard at work this morning, after thousands of members remain in the dark following severe storms Sunday that raced through western Kentucky.
Speaking with WHOP News, Brent Gilkey with Pennyrile Electric says the damage from Sunday morning’s severe storm was significant, and then the following rounds of storms didn’t help things. He says they have over a hundred power poles down in Christian County alone, and they all need to be replaced.
That’s going to take some time, and Gilkey says they’re not sure how long that is, though the expect and hope to have the full system restored by the end of the week.
Gilkey says Pennyrile Electric has shared tips and advice on their social media pages on how to safely use generators and how long food stays safe in a refrigerator when the power goes out.
He says they’re working as quickly as they can to restore power while also staying as safe as they can to make sure their linemen get back home safely—he thanked their members for their patience, saying he knows waiting in the dark isn’t easy for anyone.
Pennyrile Electric will provide updates on restoration efforts as they can. Hopkinsville Electric System says as of Monday morning, power was restored to the majority of their customers, and ask that if anyone else is still without power to call 270-887-4200 and let them know.
Kentucky Utilities are currently assessing damage in the Crofton area and locations in Hopkins County, with no timeline on when those customers might see the lights come back on at this time.
