Hopkinsville High Track senior Ian Rosario Alicea wins Player of the Week

This week’s Jennie Stuart Orthopedic – Michael Venable State Farm Player of the Week is Ian Rosario Alicea.

Ian is a senior at Hopkinsville High School and is also a member of the track and field team.

In the Region 1 AA Championship, Ian placed 1st in the 110 Meter Hurdles, 300 Meter Hurdles, and was a part of the first place team in the 4×200 Meter Relay alongside James Bradley, Treston Kay, and Keyshaun Teal.

With the success Ian qualified for all three events in the state meet next weekend in Lexington.

As successful as he has been in track this season, one might be surprised to find out that he’s only been doing it since his freshman year, and that it was his second sport at one point.

In his beginning track days, Ian says he started off running in the 400 and 800 meter before he transitioned to hurdles, which he says didn’t come easy.

During his interview this week, he was outside at the Stadium of Champions in high-80 degree weather practicing with some teammates.

Ian talked a little bit about the grind that he gas to go through to achieve the success that he has.

As far as his dominant performance in the region meet, Ian talked about how proud he was with his results.

While he has enjoyed his individual success in hurdles, Ian has also found joy running with his team in the 4×400 Meter Relay.

Lastly, when asked about his leadership, Ian provided quite an insightful response.
