The executive director of Alpha Pregnancy Care appeared at Thursday’s Hopkinsville Kiwanis Club meeting to share what resources the nonprofit provides to mothers and pregnant women and how the community can support their work.
Alpha is a Hopkinsville nonprofit that offers free reproductive health services such as ultrasounds, pregnancy testing and abortion information. The nonprofit also hosts education programs for new mothers and provides them with free baby necessities.
At the meeting, Angie Crawford shared that she served on Alpha’s board before becoming the executive director of the nonprofit. When she initially took on the role, Crawford says she thought unexpected pregnancies typically affected teenagers, but she quickly found that women of all ages deal with unexpected pregnancies.
Crawford says they also care for patients who have had difficult pregnancies in the past and for those who may not be able to get a timely appointment at an OBGYN.
Along with providing pregnancy care and information to their patients, the nonprofit also provides supplies for babies such as diapers, clothes, wipes and car seats. Crawford says, expecting mothers can participate in Alpha’s Earn and Learn program where participants earn points as they complete an education program and with those points, they can receive free baby necessities.
In 2023, Crawford says Alpha gave out around 975 sleeves of diapers, 874 baby wipe containers, 3,156 items of clothing, 342 items of food, 244 bottles and 78 car seats.
Earlier in the month Alpha cut the ribbon on their newly remodeled conference room, a play area for children and a furnished office. Crawford thanked the members of the 2023-2024 class of the Hopkinsville Leadership Program who tasked themselves with the remodeling project.
When it comes to supporting Alpha, Crawford says some of the profits from White Flowers, a children’s clothing resale store in boutique, go toward Alpha and the nonprofit also accepts direct donations.
