Complicity to murder suspect in infant death case released on signature bond

Murder suspect, Alexander Heck and complicity to murder suspect, Dakota Heck appeared in Christian County Circuit Court on Wednesday where Judge Andrew Self approved releasing Dakota Heck from custody under a signature bond.

The pair is charged in connection to the murder of an infant in their home in March 2022. Alexander Heck was arrested in February 2023 and Dakota Heck was recently arrested earlier in May. The victim was a child of a mother that had been reportedly staying with the Heck’s at the time.

For Dakota Heck’s pretrial conference, her defense attorney Doug Moore issued a bond reduction motion. Moore says Dakota Heck’s release risk assessment score was zero and she was not at the residence at the time of the murder.

Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney, Mark Gilbert pushed back on Moore’s motion saying the charge Dakota Heck faces is serious and she is one of the last people to see the victim alive.

After hearing from both the prosecution and the defense, Self granted for Dakota Heck to be released with an ankle monitor under a signature bond. Self says Dakota Heck’s cash bond will remain the same, but with the signature bond she will be signing off on documents agreeing to her release conditions and her father will be responsible for her.

Alexander Heck and Dakota Heck will reappear in court on July 10 for a pretrial conference. If the case is not resolved by July 10 a trial date will be set.
