Pennyroyal Center shares their mental health, substance abuse resources

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and to spotlight mental health resources in the region, Ashley Beamon from the Pennyroyal Center shared what services they offer at Thursday’s Hopkinsville Kiwanis Club meeting.

The Pennyroyal Center is an agency that serves much of the Pennyrile region and provides therapy services, crisis resources, services for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, substance abuse programs and more. Pennyroyal Center clinics are located in Christian, Hopkins, Caldwell and Muhlenberg counties.

For substance abuse, Beamon says they have 28-day treatment facilities for men and women and they offer dual treatments for substance abuse and mental health. Beamon says they find that patients tend to abuse substances as a way to deal with their mental health or their abuse of substance may lead to them developing mental health issues.

The Pennyroyal Center also has recovery-oriented housing which Beamon says is a longer-term program for those living with addiction.

Along with substance abuse resources, the Pennyroyal Center offers youth services such as school-based therapy, case management and wellness activities.

Children age out of youth services when they turn 18 years old, but Beamon shared that they offer youth transitional services to help them move to adult and outpatient services.

Crisis and emergency services are available for patients of all ages. Beamon says their crisis program is short-term and serves to help people who may be struggling to cope with a traumatic event that happened to them. Beamon says those people can contact their crisis phoneline and Pennyroyal Center workers will connect them to appropriate services.

Beamon says their crisis service also to serve to help those in need while they wait for the outpatient intake process.

For patients will intellectual and developmental disabilities, Beamon says they offer adult day training, residential services and case management. She says they have also recently launched a program for patients with Autism, because some patients have had to travel to Nashville, Murray or Bowling Green in order to receive care.

Concluding her presentation, Beamon says it’s the goal of the Pennyroyal Center to meet the needs of the community by having person centered services available to all residents in their service region.
