The Tennessee Valley Authority handed out grants through their Uplift program and they recognized the recipients Thursday morning.
Grants were awarded to 106 schools throughout the TVA’s Southeast region through the School Uplift program, which has saved participating schools an average of 10 percent on their energy bills annually through behavioral changes alone. When combined with energy savings from grant-funded upgrades, this year’s participants will save an estimated 9 GWh of energy or the amount of electricity used by 1,241 homes in one year.
Some of those schools were local, including $10,000 to South Todd Elementary School and $10,000 to Todd County Central High School. Chandler’s Elementary School in Russellville received $25,000, Benton Elementary received $25,000 and North Calloway Elementary in Murray got a whopping $210,000.
Lori Brown with TVA Energy Right says the Uplift Program has been a tremendous success and is dedicated to making schools more efficient and beneficial to students.
In March, TVA’s School Uplift program was named an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year, the highest level of EPA recognition for partners that excel at energy management and meet various criteria, such as demonstrating best practices and organization-wide energy savings.
