Students studying plant science at Christian County High School are inviting the community to their annual spring plant sale which serves to benefit their Future Farmers of America (FFA) program and to allow students to gain work experience.
Mattea Wyatt, an agriculture teacher at the high school, shared that the spring plant sale is a student led effort. Students are responsible for planting the seeds, taking care of the plants, creating a price guide, marketing the sale and working with customers.
Sophomore, Addison Gilkey says she and her peers have worked hard pruning and fertilizing the plants to ensure they are beautiful and healthy upon sale. Gilkey also shared that one of her favorite plants to have grown for the sale were Kong Coleus shrubs.
Wyatt says the students have grown a variety of plants including annual flowering plants, succulents, house plants, herbs and some vegetables.
Wyatt says funds from the sale will go toward their school’s FFA program for trips, meals for students and classroom labs.
Plants are available for sale on Monday through Friday from noon to 4:30 p.m. and on April 27 and May 11 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Plants are sold from the high school’s greenhouse which is located in the back of Christian County High School.
The sale is set to conclude on May 11 and more information is available at Christian County High School Agriculture Department on Facebook.
