The Rotary Club of Hopkinsville is off to a tremendous start with the 74th annual Rotary Radio Auction, with money raised after two nights already past $200,000 with four nights to go.
The live auction saw 123 items sold Tuesday night, raising $17,562 and visitors must have been hungry Tuesday, because the diner and sweet shop brought in $6,315.47. The Hour and Goat Clubs raised $79,258, which brings the overall total raised Tuesday up to $103,136.06.
That puts the total raised following two nights of the auction at $229,868.13—Auction Chair Kelly Gates says she’s thrilled at the efforts so far and she’s excited to see how the rest of the week goes.
The diner is open for lunch each day from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and you can grab a bite to eat also during the auction itself, which goes from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. through Thursday, then Friday night goes until 10 p.m. and Saturday until all items are sold.
During the Tuesday night festivities, local elementary, middle and high schools presented their fundraising totals on behalf of the Rotary Scholars program, bringing in a record amount of $79,130—and then Gateway Academy brought in their contribution, pushing it over $80,000.
The 74th annual Rotary Auction won’t be available on Spectrum channel 376 this year, but don’t worry—you can still listen live on WHOP at 98.7 Lite FM and watch live on the Hopkinsville Rotary website and Facebook pages. You can also always go in person and bid for an item—you can call in a bid at 270-885-7500.
