The driver, later identified as Wakeem Mumford, allegedly went through a parking lot at a high speed, putting pedestrians at risk, and then headed westbound on Highway 62, eventually making his way northbound onto the Pennyrile Parkway, before cutting across the median and heading south.
The Christian County Sheriff’s Department joined the pursuit and was able to successfully deploy spike strips, disabling the vehicle near the 11-mile marker. Mumford reportedly told officers he was wanted in Tennessee and had been smoking marijuana while driving.
A search of the vehicle allegedly revealed a few burnt marijuana cigarettes and other drug paraphernalia.
Mumford was taken into custody and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, fleeing or evading police, DUI, reckless driving, possession of marijuana, numerous traffic violations and third-degree criminal mischief.
