Street unveiling ceremony honors local business man Bill Flynn

Members of the community and the Flynn family gathered at the corner Fort Campbell Boulevard and East 21st Street for a street sign unveiling ceremony for Bill Flynn Boulevard on Thursday.

In December, the Hopkinsville City Council approved renaming a portion of East 21st Street between Walnut Street and Harrison Street to Bill Flynn Boulevard.

Bill Flynn was well known in the community for starting his business Flynn Enterprises in Hopkinsville in 1976. Along with establishing his own company, Bill Flynn was also known for his philanthropic work and helping those in need. He passed away in 2021 at the age of 81.

At the street sign unveiling ceremony one of Bill Flynn’s sons, Tom Flynn said his father spent a great amount of his time at his company so it’s nice to see the street that runs alongside the business be named in his honor.

Tom Flynn shared that the idea to rename a portion of East 21st Street after his father came as a surprise that was put into motion by local government.

Along with family, Henry Law one of the first employees at Flynn Enterprises attended the ceremony. Law said he originally intended to work at Flynn Enterprises for a year, but ended up spending around 36 years at the company after enjoying his time working with the Flynn family.

Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight says the street dedication was well deserved as Bill Flynn had a positive impact on the city and his family continues to give back to the community.

The sign for Bill Flynn Boulevard stands at the intersection of Fort Campbell Boulevard across the street from the front entrance of Flynn Enterprises.
