The City of Hopkinsville is inviting the community to a street renaming ceremony to honor the legacy of local business owner and philanthropist Bill Flynn.
According to a news release from the city, Flynn was the founder of Flynn Enterprises in Hopkinsville in 1976 and since it has grown to be an international company with facility locations across Western Kentucky.
Along with establishing his own company, Flynn was known for his philanthropic efforts and helping those in need. Flynn passed away in 2021 at the age of 81.
In December, the Hopkinsville City Council approved renaming a portion of East 21st Street between Walnut Street and Harrison Street to Bill Flynn Boulevard.
Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight says the renaming of East 21st Street to Bill Flynn Blvd is a small gesture to honor a man whose legacy continues to inspire the community. The renaming ceremony was originally scheduled for Thursday, but during his Friday appearance on WHOP Knight shared that because of the weather the ceremony is now set for Thursday, April 18.
The Bill Flynn Boulevard Street renaming ceremony is set for 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 18 at the corner of Fort Campbell Boulevard and the current East 21st Street by Flynn Enterprises.
