Street dedication ceremony honors longtime Hopkinsville pastor

Members of First Street Missionary Baptist Church along with members of the community gathered outside the church for a street dedication ceremony honoring Pastor C.E. Timberlake and his wife Kimberly Timberlake for their service to the community on Wednesday.

The road formerly known as Quarry Street runs alongside the church that C.E. Timberlake has been a pastor at for nearly four decades. On Wednesday, Quarry Street was officially renamed to “Pastor C.E. Timberlake Way.”

The street renaming comes after a request was filed by the church and the Hopkinsville City Council unanimously approved the renaming of Quarry Street.

Church member Thomas Grant started the ceremony and shared that they decided to work toward renaming the street while C.E. Timberlake was still a working pastor because they wanting to give him his flowers while he was still alive to smell them.

Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight said he met C.E. Timberlake around two decades ago when he was working on a refrigerator for him. Knight thanked C.E. Timberlake for the work he has done and continues to do to lift up the community.

Hopkinsville City Council member Natasha Francis announced that December officially marks C.E. Timberlake’s 40th year anniversary of his pastoral work in Hopkinsville. Francis says members of the church are thankful for the work he has done and the street is a symbol of their appreciation.

C.E. Timberlake thanked those who played a role in making the street dedication happen and said he felt as though he did not deserve it, but was honored to have a street named after him.

The Pastor C.E. Timberlake Way sign stands across the street from the church at the intersection of Moayan Street.
